This morning at about 10:30 am, Dolly gave birth to her two kids. She saved the entire kidding season by birthing the only girl of the bunch. And with that announcement the kidding season here at StoneFace Farm is nearly officially over. I still don’t know if I will ever hear from the Andrus sheep operation. That Dollie is due sometime next week. I can always hope they remember to call me, I don’t think I have any way to contact them.
So to recap all of the transactions this spring, I lost two does before they even had a chance to deliver. Connie and Loretta will be missed and not just because they were great milk producers. June Carter had her babies sometime after 6:00 am in a snowstorm on April 16th 2013,
Skeeter was next with her one buckling just after 3:00pm on May 8th 2013,
There is some confusion in the goat shelter today for the mama goats because if you set Drax and Midnight side by side you would have a difficult time telling which is which. There are some subtle marking differences, but Skeeter in particular is having to check to make sure which one is hers before feeding. I am just praying for all 5 babies to continue to be healthy and grow up strong.
In other news the ducks got a brand new puddle to play in. It took them most of the afternoon on Wednesday to figure it out, but once they did they wouldn’t leave it. I had to catch one of them, probably Clangor, and set him in it. at first he simply stood on the bottom and refused to float or splash or anything. Once he told the others about it, it didn’t take long before they were all swimming and dabbling and “ducking” their entire bodies under the surface. In a very short time the water was very muddy. They are almost as much fun to watch as the goat kids. Oh yeah, I think by the curly feather in Clangor’s tail and his raspy quack I can say that I have one drake. At this point though I think the others (Schmutz, Darkwing, and Duckula) are female.

I received my blood work results over the phone on Wednesday as well. The nurse who read them to me said ” If I could reach through the phone or be there in front of you I would give you a “high five” for the amazing results you have achieved in the last 6 months” the new diet and lifestyle have really paid off.
My A1C went from 8 to 6.4 (she called that golden)
Weight from 245 to 223 (their scale, mine says 216)
glucose from 165 to 147 (my test that morning read 74)
cholesterol (triglycerides, hdl….) no change from last test, in other words still very good (I stopped taking my Cholesterol meds just to see what difference it made)
I now have a new goal, to start the exercise portion of this lifestyle. The results thus far have been due to dietary change MOSTLY. And in 6 months if I keep up the progress the doctor hinted at reducing/eliminating some medications.
All in all a very good week, don’t you think?
