What am I going to do with all of this……?

Back when I was “working” in the aerospace industry, we used to get our paychecks delivered to our desk  every 2 weeks and I noticed some people would open their envelope, look at the deductions section and start to loudly complain about how little they were able to take home. At some point I grew tired of this and I would then open my pay envelope and look at the check and say something to the effect of ” Wow! What am I going to do with all of this money?!”

For some reason my co-workers did not find this amusing. I guess some people just have no sense of humor.  It’s not that I made more money than anyone else in that group, and in fact most times like everyone else the money was spent days before I got the envelope. I just did not see the point in complaining about it.

How does this fit with the effort to farm this place? Good question. When I first moved here and saw the condition of the property, and all of the junk just sitting there one of the first things I thought was “What am I going to do with all of this”? (WaIgtdwaot?) It is like the person trying to eat the elephant, you have to take it one bite at a time. And so ten years later,  people are starting to tell me it is looking good, or looking like a farm again. There is still a lot to do, fences to re-set, pastures to re-plant and more clean up to do …

Now with the goats there is more of a need to get things done in preparation for the winter. I have started milking them and though the kids are just over three months old, I don’t have them weaned just yet. Part of the problem is my poor system for milking, but also right now both of the “ladies” are giving over a pound of milk each, every day! That is a bit more than a quart of milk, every day from only one milking! WaIgtdwaot?!!! How am I going to use twice that much when I have to start milking two times each day? Not only that, but without steady income, How will I pay for the buildings and improvements and equipment I will need for the rest of the year?

I know it sounds like I am complaining. I also know that God does not give us more than we can handle, but right now it feels like I am getting more than I know what to do with.

It still beats sitting behind a desk!
