Or maybe it should be Bamboo-zeld and weaseled. It turns out I do not have any pictures of the running bamboo after I planted them. I did however take one (or two or three) of the clumping bamboo I planted today. Continue reading
Shoulder is Jive, Bamboo arrives, Ducks did not survive.
I am a day late, again, in posting this weekly egg summary. Holiday weekends seem to throw me off for some reason. We had company this last sunday. My brother and his wife stayed overnight on their way back home from a wedding in Wyoming. Always a good excuse to light up the firepit and cook out. Continue reading
The weekend is upon us
Well, Jenni just went back to work for 7 weeks, we have a three day weekend, and there is still too much to do to be ready for the summer season. Continue reading
There is no joy in Duckville
This week I took all of the hatchlings down to the Jensen petting zoo so they could watch them for me while I re-arrange the duck pen. DuckSoup and his compatriate Stevie(the wonderduck) did not survive their second day. Not sure what happened, they were the smallest of the bunch. Could be they got trampled by the others or something else equally obscure. Continue reading
Hangin’ with my peeps, or Cheeep(er) by the dozen
I forgot to mention last post that Saturday the 3rd of May was the 25 day mark for the eggs in the incubator. That meant I had to take the turning mechanism out, increase the humidity and decrease the temperature. Continue reading
Another year older and deeper in…..?
This was a very busy week. I started out trying to get the new garden space ready for planting. It had been cold, but I figured that it will eventually warm up enough to get seeds in the ground. I went out after watering the chickens, ducks and goats to fire up the rototiller and as I was tilling the pumpkin patch the snow started falling. Continue reading
Sprouts and goats in isolation
After recovering from the busy weekend I noticed on Monday that my weather station was acting like it needed new batteries. So I went out into the blustery breeze and disassembled the sensor that holds the batteries. At least I tried to. The cover that shields the temp/humidity sensor and transmitter was stuck. It is supposed to simply slide on and off. But it didn’t want to slide/move/budge. I sometimes give in to the philosophy of “don’t force it, get a bigger hammer”. Continue reading
Easter 2014
I missed last night’s deadline due to the need to prepare for and then get some sleep prior to the Easter breakfast that the men in my church put on every year. This is a fundraiser to benefit the local Habitat for Humanity and provide scholarships to summer church camp. Continue reading
Gettin’ stuff done
This has been a busy week. I have moved the sprouted grains project into the basement and still did not see a lot of sprouting happening. I think that even though it is warmer in the basement, or more precisely, the temperature does not fluctuate as much as outside; the average temp. is not as high as the grains need to sprout. Continue reading
Milking Time again.
Last Friday I finally got the mama goats up on the stand and made sure all the working parts were working correctly. I decided at that point that I would let the kids have all of the milk for another week or so. Well, that week is up. The kids are doing well and it’s time to begin the milking schedule once again. Continue reading
